Bailey Employment Services Ltd are recruiting a Transport Planner on behalf of their client, who is both a responsible operator and employer. The purpose of this role within the business is to ensure the driver and vehicle fleet is planned and utilised in the most effective and efficient manner, ensuring customer requirements are achieved whilst maintaining compliance of legislation and company standards. Positive and motivational communicating with colleagues and customers will play a key part of this role.


  • Good understanding of UK Operator Licence requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience of Driver Hours, Tachographs & WTD Legislation.
  • Knowledge and experience of the FORS Standards and policies.
  • Current UK Driving Licence.
  • Polite, courteous, respectful, and helpful.
  • Self-motivated, punctual, and reliable.
  • Flexible and tolerant towards the demands of a modern-day transport operation.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Good IT skills and experience in Microsoft Office based programs.

Job Duties:

  • Liaising with customers, processing orders and job bookings.
  • Routing abnormal load movements.
  • Planning daily workflows for optimum utilisation of company fleet.
  • Manage and plan driver shifts to ensure sufficient resources available at all times
  • Liaising with sub-contractors to cover peak workflows
  • Briefing/instructing drivers with allocated work.
  • Monitoring work schedules and re-scheduling when necessary
  • Driver debriefing & POD reconciliation.
  • Ensuring Drivers Hours compliance
  • Ensure Vehicle/Trailer defects are recorded and reported before use.
  • Reporting, recording, and processing driver accidents.
  • Any other transport related duty that may arise within the transport office
  • Covering colleagues through holiday or sickness
  • Raising concerns and giving feedback from any of the company activities to the Transport Manager.

Hours of Work & Salary:

  • Monday to Friday office based. 0800 to 1730hrs.
  • On-call every third week, including appointed supervisor over the weekend.
  • Salary, negotiable subject to previous experience and qualifications.
  • Holidays, 20 days per year plus bank holidays

Additional Benefits & Requirements

  • 28 days Paid Annual Leave pro-rata for PAYE (inclusive of statutory holiday)
  • Hourly rate as above (not age dependent)
